Kenya 2000

My experience with the WorldService Corps was really difficult -- one of the most emotionally trying times in my life. However, it completely changed my outlook on life. I had been quite a cocky person -- assured that I knew the answers to their world's problems. Being in Kenya shook me out of my complacency and forced me to realize how little I really knew about living in a situation of poverty. It also caused me to question to the very core of my being who I was, what I valued and what I believed. It made me certain that my vocation was to work on understanding situations of poverty and conflict, trying to contribute to their alleviation and explaining them to people in richer communities. It was an incredible experience.
